Mr MattliCAv Price, late Resident Magistrate at Gisborne, died this morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs MatthcAvs, of the Bank of New Zealand, aged 00 years. Tho deceased, on his retirement from the Gisborne Court, Avas appointed Resident Magistrate for Ashburton, but it bad, from the precarious state of his health, been generaUa* thought that he Avould noA'cr enter on his duties there. His end has been undoubtedly hastened through exposure Avhen burnt out at his lodgings a feAV Aveeks ago, at the time Gruncr's house Avas destroyed. " Old Mat," as ho Avas familiarly termed by the AVcst Coast gold diggers Avhen adjudicating in that district, has gono to rest, and cvcryAvhcrc he avus knoAvn the iicavs Avill be received Avith regret. His namo Avill live after him as an upright straightforward magistrate.
