Invercargill, This day.

At a meeting of the Southland County Council yesterday the engineer stated that the cost of the works proposed in the various riding-s amounted to ,£Bi,S2'2. The Council granted permission to the Carrying Company to extend northwards from the terminus, the rails to be laid so that the centre of the traunvay is to be over thirteen feet from the centre of the road. Representatives from the Invercargill and Lindhurst Road Boards asked the Council to take over both Boards. In support of the petition it was stated that the revenue of tho Boards absorbed iv working expenses tho interest ou the loans. The Council resolved that it could not take over the Boards until they showed a clean sheet.
