CROWN LANDS ADMINISTRATION IN DUNEDIN.
Dunedin, This day. The members of the Waste Lands Board were yesterday served with notice of application for a mandamus to compel thorn to issue pastoral deferred-payment licenses to Johnston, one of the purchasers at the recent sale to whom a license was refused. Eight tenders were received by the Board under the perpetual leasing system for lands in Strath Taieri and Sutton, 1187 acres being taken up at prices ranging from 5.« to 10s per acre. The Laud Board to-day commenced taking evidence re "Dummyism." None of tho principal witnesses summoned appeared, and the Board, on the motion of Mr Stout, carried a resolution empowering the chairman to take legal proceedings for the recovery of penalties under the Commissioner's Powers Act. Mr Bradshaw was examined, and stated that the persons for whom he acted were bonn Jhie purchasers.
