CHARGES AND OFFENCES.
Auckland, This day. The charge of assault brought by Mr Browning , , solicitor, against Heaps, special constable of the Opera-house, was heard yesterday before the Ilusident ilag-lstralc. Messrs T. Peacock, and F. L. Prime, J.P.s, also sat on the bench. The case lasted all diiy. It arose out of & fracas at the Opera-house on Friday night last, in which Messrs Browning-and Earl, solicitors, alleged that they were assaulted by Heaps. The case was dismissed without hearing all the witnesses for the defence, each part) - to pay hi.s o\m costs. Heaps then withdrew tho uuimter charge of assault against Mr Browning. The Court was crowded all day, and great public interest was taken in the case. Duxbdix, This day, A seaman of the Alastor, from Glasgow, who pleaded guilty to constant disobedience on the passage, was sentenced yesterday to twelve mouths' imprisonment with Hard labor,
