ORDINARY MEETING.

At tho ordinary meeting which followed tho same members were present. CORRESPONDENCE. Tho following inward correspondence was read: — From His Worship the Mayor, apologising for his absence. From tho Harbor Master, reporting depth of water on bar to be lift. Oin. The recent southerly weather had deposited a quantity of shingle at the entrance to the harbor. From-tho engineer, reporting progress of dredging operations, which had been delayed somewhat owing to bad weather. The'contractor for the new punt had commenced work, aud the breastwork contractor would probably have his contract finished iv ton days. Several minor repairs to the boat-shed and breastwork had been carried out. Rubble was required to metal tho new breastwork at a cost of £160.

HARBOR RESERVES. The following report was read from the committee appointed to enquire what reservos were available for lease and to recommend the upoot prices fo _• leasing them : —"After carefully considering the position of tho various reserves your committee recommend that tho sections mentioned in tho annexed schedule be submitted for lease at public auction. All leases to be for 30 years,? the rent • increasing 50 per cent, after tho expiration of 10 years, and 100 per cent, after 20 years ; the upset prices to be as stated in schedule." A schedule was attached to the report describing the various reserves open for lease and fixhig the upset price of each. Tho report was adopted, and it was decided that tho leases should bo offered at auction.

THE PROPOSED NEW HARBOR. On the motion of Mr W. C. Smith it was decided that the Chairman bo authorised to request the Government to cable to the Agent-General, asking him to ascertain when the decision of tho judges on the designs for the Napier Harbor woidd likely bo received, and to cable his reply. MR VAUTIER'B CLAIM. Pursuant to notice of motion the Hon. J. N. Wilson moved, "That tho resolution carried on February 20th in _ relation to Mr Vautier's claim be rescinded." Mr J. N. Williams seconded the motion. A long and animated discussion followed, the motion being ultimately put tv the meeting and negatived on tho voices. It was afterwards ordered that Mr Van tier's claim be included in the vouchers passed that day. MISCIiLLANKOUS. On the motion of Mr W. C. Smith, seconded by Mr H. Williams, it was decided to ask the engineer to report on-the question of tho available accommodation at the wharf for the lauding of passengers' luggage and of merchandise arriving by coasting steamers. MrW. C. Smith moved, "That a resolution passed at the March meeting, that a block of laud known as the Mahara, consisting of 5000 acres, be applied for as an endowment, bo altered so as to strike out the Mahara block with a view of inserting some other block of land in its place."—Carried. Accounts amounting to £832 lGs 3d were passed for payment. Tho credit balance at the bank was stated to be £933 lis, besides £5000 on fixed deposit.

Tho following notices of motion were given:— Mr Vautier to move, " That the engineer bo instructed to prepare plans and specifications and call for tenders for a breastwork.from tho north end of the Iron Pot bridge (in a straight line) to the south end of the cattle wharf—main piles to bo 20 feet long and 10 by 10, and sheeting piles 17 feet long and 5 inches thick ; all of heart of totara—so as to admit vessels drawing 10 feet at high water." Mr P. Dolbcl to move, "That recognising tlis large and steady increase of commerce at the port of Napier, and considering that tho present accommodation js wholly inadequate for the shipping of the said port, it is resolved that this Board at its next meeting do take into consideration some means to be adopted to relieve siicii. want so detrimental to the progress of tho community, and further, to consider whether the deepening of the Iron Pot, with a wharf erected on the north and south sides, is not tho only available means lit present to give immediate shipping accommodation. And that the Harbor Board engineer bo requested to prepare plans and estimate of cost of tho said work, to be laid on tho tabic at next meeting for the consideration of the Board." The Board then adjourned.
