John Cooper Jowett, charged with a criminal ;iss;i.\ilt on a prirl under I*2 years of age, was found guilty. Sentence was postponed. Richard Thomas was found guilty of the manslaughter of a fellow-carman named Bols, after a long trial., but the jury strongly recommended him to mercy on the ground of gross provocation and his acting in selfdefence. Sentence Avas postponed. Mr Duncan explained in Court that he was not aware that Hata Rio intended to commit perjury when he put him in the witness-box on the ejectment trial. The Chief Justice did not express any opinion on the explanation. This day. Jowett, for indecent assault, was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment with hard labor, unci twenty-five lashes with the cat. Thomas, for manslaughter, was sentenced to one'month without hard labor. '' The case against Jenkins, for assault with, intent, is now proceeding.
