The first of a series of winter entertainments will be held in the Working Men's Club hall this evening, commencing at 8.30. Hot and cold suppers and hot pies and coffee will be served at Schierning's restaurant from 7to 12 to-night. All kinds of cooked meats are sold by the pound. Mr J. F. Sturm wants 'it known that he has a large quantity of fresh vegetables to bo sold cheap to-night. The members of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club hold their annual meeting in the club rooms, Tennyson street, at 11 a.m. on Monday. Applications for the appointment of lady teacher to the Wallingford school must be sent in to Mr J. Mackie, secretary to School Committee, not later than Monday. Messrs H. Monteith, R, P. Williams, J. O. Evctt, R. T. Walker, A. Knight, and C. C. Murray have taken out shooting licenses for the game season. During the winter months classes at the Ladies' College will assemble at 10 a.m., instead of 9.30 as heretofore. Mr B. B. Johnson has been appointed Waipawa agent for the Union Insurance Company. Mr. J. A. Rearden will open a nightschool at his Academy, Coote-road, on May 7th. Mr Duglcby invites tenders for making additions to a residence in Tennyson-street. "Nellie Gray," care of G. G.'Miller, box No. 8, Post-office, Onehunga, near Auckland, has opened a consultation on the Dunedin Queen's Birthday Handicap. Tenders are invited for the erection of new premises for the Bank of New Zealand at Woodvillc. Mr E. T. Allen is carrying on business as carver and gilder, j>icture-fr<imc maker and mount cutter, in premises in Dicken'sstrcot, near Mr Waterworth's monumental works. Mr .J. ITutchins, land and commission agent, seedsman, &n., Woodville, is also agent for the Union Insurance Company. Mr George Scarfe has on sale bacon, hams, fresh butter, and pure teas, the prices for the latter beverage being quoted. Messrs Blythe and Co. have fashionable millinery at moderate cost. A number of new advertisements will be found in our " Wanted " column.
