AUCKLAND.
This clay, _ Thomas Stewart, a half-caste, was accidentally killed yesterday by getting jammed between two logs at tho Hikaurunga shavmilis.
The Hon. C. Bromley lectured last evening on the "English iv Ireland" in the Lorue-street Hall to a good house. Air J. A. Tole, M.H.R., presided. Among those present Avere Bishop Luck, Monsignorc Fynes, and a number of the Catholic clergy." His Lordship Bishop Luck, in moving ii vote of thanks to the lecturer, said, ""AVhen he listened to what his countrymen had done in Ireland he felt ashamed of his country and of being an Englishman. The brave, patient, longsuffering Irish Avould always have his sympathies." These utterances of _ the Bishop greatly mollified that section of his flock avlio had been irritated by his letter to the Hibernian Society with regard to Mr Redmond's mission.
