This day

At a meeting of the AVaiinakariri Board yesterday a statement Avas made that C. C. Dudley, 'the clerk, had failed to account for certain sums of money received by him on account of the Board, and also that the rent book avus missing, and that an important page had been torn outof another book. A committee Avas appointed to instruct a solicitor to proceed against Dudley for the deficieuces stated. Dudley was formerly Towu Clerk of Kaiapoi, and legal proceedings are pending against him by the Town Council for missing books, etc.

Yesterday the Hon. Major Atkinson informed the'chairman or the Railway League that ii commission had been appointed to report upon the best route for a railway from licre to the AVest Coast.

AY. II- E. Pinching, chemist, of Kaiapoi, has been missing several days. Search parties have been out, but can find no trace of him.

The Drainage Board object to pa}- property tax on their landed estate, as they have borrowed £200,000, and they demand that it should bo taken into account as a debt.
