SECOND DAY.
AN EXECRABLE START.—THREE HORSES LEFT ON THE COURSE.

jBY TELEGRAPH..] The weather for the second day's races was again favorable, and the attendance Avas larger than even on the previous day. The first event was the GRAND STAND HANDICAP. Of 150 soys ; distance 2 miles. 3lr P. Butler's eh m Luna, aged, 7st oib r. .. 1 3lr R. H. Vallance's eh m Louie, -1 years, 7st 13lb .. .. .. 2 3lr P. Martin's eh g Leonato, 3 rears, 7st .. 2 Louie and Leonato ran a dead heat for second place. Libeller, Leonora, and Tho Laird were left out of the race, not being at the post at the time of starting (12.50), although on the course. Great public dissatisfaction Avas manifested Avith the starter who Avas liberally hooted at weighing in. Tho inside totalisator paid a dividend of ,_6 ti.s. Louie led off with the start, and maintained the same for three parts of the distance, with Luna last. Luna then forged ahead, quickly passing- Leonato and Louie, and coming in an easy Avinner. 3lischief and Hippodamia avctc scratched. After the race Captain Russell, the President of the club, addressed those present. He said he had to apologise for his horse Leonora, which the public had been good enough to make a favorite, not starting. It must be confessed that a clumsy start had been effected, Avhich left three horses out of the race, but he A\-ished to exonerate the starter from all blame, as it Avas his duty to start the races punctually. Cries of dissent and numerous voices, " Why did he not start punctually then ':" PROVINCIAL PRODUCE STAKES, Of IOOsoa's; a\'eight for age ; distance one mile. MrG. E. G. A good start Avas effected, Cannon Avimiing, hard held, by a dozen lengths from the second and third horses, who Avere close together. Time, lmin. 49.', sees. HANDICAP HURDLE RACE.
