This day. The "Go-as-you-please" contest between Drummond, of Dunedin, and Cusack, of Christchurch, on Saturday, Avas Avon by tho former, who led the whole way. Time, 2 hours 45 minutes. The Premier arrived on Saturday afternoon. He received a number of deputations to-day. The Collector of Customs held an inquiry into the circumstances of the collision between the Mahinapua and the Oniapere on Saturday. The eiidcncc of those on the Maliinapua was taken and has been sent to Wellington. It ivill not be published, as a magisterial inquiry is probable. Professor Bickcrton, at a lecture on Friday night, tested the supposed diamonds that Avere found by Jacobson, and ascertained that they arc not diamonds.
