DUNEDIN.

This day. At the City Court to-day W. Mintcr was committed for trial for embezzling monies belonging to the New Zealand Insurance Company. It is stated that the defalcations amount to £000. In the R.M. Court to-day, in the action Cafes v. the Otago Harbor. Board, a claim of £100 for damages to the barque Motley by collision with the ship Philomene, the magistrate held that Pilot Kelly, in bringing up the barque, had shown want of care amounting to negligence, and that the damage occasioned was entirely through his fault. The plaintiff was unable to recover damage through not having given a month's notice of the action, as required by section 227 of the Harbors Act. If called on to state a case he would assess the damages at £8.
