THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT TO THE SOUTH.—ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION AT LYTELTON, AND CHRISTCHURCH.
Christchuroh, This day. The GoY'ernor arrived at Lyttelton this morning. On landing His Excellency i\-as met by the Mayor and Borough Councillors and the members of tho Harbor Board. The Lyttelton NaA-als furnished a guard of honor, aud a detachment of the Christchurch Artillery fired a salute. An address Avas presented by the Borough Council, and His Excellency briefly replied. After hearing a number of school children sing the National Anthem he left by special train for Christchurch. The reception at Christchurch avus enthusiastic. A triumphal arch has been erected in front of the railway station, there Avere scA-eral lines of Hags across the streets, and bunting Yvas displayed from the principal lYiudoivs. Most of the shops ivere closed, and croAvds of people filled the streets. At the railway station the City Guards formed a guard of honor, and a line ivas formed across the street in front of the station by tho Fire Brigade and the officials of the Friendly Societies. The garrison and the Hibernian bands Avcro in attendance on the arrival of the special train at 10.15. His Excellency Y\-as received by the Mayor and City Councillors, the Chairman and members of the SelYY'vn County Council, and a large number of tho principal citizens. Addresses of Avolcome were read from the City Council, the Selwyn County Council, and the Friendly Societies, to AY'hich the GoA'ernor made suitable replies. He Avas then driven in an open carriage to Cathedral Square, YY'here the National Anthem was sung by 4,000 public school children. His Excellency then proceeded to the Christchurch Club, AY'here he AY'ill stay during his lisit.
