ASHBURTON.
This day. The weather is magnificent for the harvest, which is now general throughout Ashburton county. Numbers of men are arriving daily and demanding high wages, which the f irmers are compelled to give. The rates arc for ordinary harvesters £3 10s and found, and for machine drivers £4 and found. There will, notwithstanding, be a great scarcity of labor, as the crops arc very heavy, and there will be an enormous yield. At :i Government .s.ile of town sections on Tuesday the allotments, at a distance from the business part of the. town and poorly situated, realised exceptionally high prices. Land in the Ashburton district is rapidly increasing in value, consequent on the magnificent crops, both in quantity and quality.
