The steamer City of New York, with the October English mails, left San Francisco for Auckland on the 22nd ultimo, one day later than her time-table date. The steamer Zealandia, with the October colonial mailp, arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on the 29th ultimo, four days earlier than her timetable date.

The Wairarapa Agricultural and Pastoral Society's Show at Carterton yesterday was a great success. Upwards of three thousand persons went up to it from town by excursion train.

Before the Chief Justice and Mr Justice Richmond, in Banco yesterday, Mr Chapman, on behalf of the Law Society, moved for a rule absolute in re Edward ffrancis Ward. Mr Stafford, with whom was Mr Hall, appeared to show cause on the other side, judgment was reserved.

The Customs duties collected at the port of Wellinglou for the month ending the 3let of October amounted to £1G,942, while for the corresponding month last year the receipts were only £15,224 9s 3d. Major Atkinson returned to Wellington last night.
