DUNEDIN.
October 26. At the City Court to-day a Frenchman was charged with vagrancy. It appeared that his only rreane of subsistence was picking up crumbs of bread thrown away by school children. The magistrate dismissed the case, eaying there was no criminality shown, and advised him to apply to the Benevolent Institution for assistance. According to the Mataura Ensign there is a doubt whether Sir Julius Vegel will visit New Zealand after all. He will be in Melbourne over the racing carnival, but as he is due at Home at the end of the year it is more than likely he will return at once by one of the Orient liners. The evidence at the enquiry regarding the railway accident has been forwarded to headquarters at Wellington.
