The commission appointed by the Primate to inquire into and take evidence upon the best means of imparting religious instruction in tbe State schools consider that it is impossible to devise any means of general applicability for doing so consistent with the Education Act.
The Rev. J. Fergusson, of tbe Breadalbane school, who had long been a resident in Lytteltou and Christchurch, died yesterday. Mr Holmes, M.H.R. for Christchurh South, addressed his constituents last night. Tbe hall was crammed. Mr Holmes spoke for two and a half hours, explaining his votes upon the various bills brought down by the Government during the session, and severely criticising the tactics of the Ministry. A vote of thanks and entire confidence was passed.
