NAPIER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The regular monthly meeting of the above was held yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber, Mr Kinross in the / chair. 'V Before proceeding with the ordinary business the Chairman stated that, in accordance with a resolution passed at a special meeting convened for that purpose, he bad visited the Hod. Mr Dick in order to convey to him, on behalf of the Chamber, its thanks for the prompt * attention uniformly paid by the Government to its recommendations. NAPIER-WAIROA ROAD. Mr M. K. Miller communicated to the Chamber the result of an interview he had had with the Hon. Mr Rolleston during that gentleman's late visit to Napier relative to the Napier-Wairoa road. After a short discussion it was decided to write to the Wairoa Council, urging that some step should be immediately taken to secure for the Napier-Gisborne road a share of the funds set apart by the Roads Construction Act. BAILWAY PASSENGER ACCOMMODATION. A letter was read from the Napier Municipal Council requesting the cooperation of the Chamber in urging upon the Government the necessity for additional rolling-fctock being provided on the local railway. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Torre, seconded by Mr Lyndon ; " That this Committee begs to bring before the Minister of Public Works the urgent necessity of immediately increasing the y- number of passenger carriages on the Napier-Makatoku railway ; that on every public holiday much inconvenience and danger are caused to the public, and on two occasions the want of proper accommodation has resulted in the loss of life." LEA6E OF OFFICES. A draft copy of the lease of offices (or
the Chamber was submitted, and was approved subject to two amendments. Nessrs Kinross, Neal, and Sime were appointed a eub-cornmittee to arrange about furnishing the offices. ellman'b route to taupo. Mγ Miller again brought forward the subject of Ellman's route to Taupo, and stated that Mr Ellraan was in Napier, and was willing to give his services towards opening up a track for stock, to show the feasibility of the route for road or railway purposes. After some discussion the following resolution was passed:—"Mr Ellman being at present in Napier, and having offered to give his own services free, if provided with the requisite labor, to cut a track by bis old route from Opipi, to Mohaka, via the Aripia valley, (he committee recommend that the President and Mr Miller interview the Chairman of the Hawke's Bay County Council, in order to see how the means can best be furnished to cut the track referred to." The meeting then adjourned.
