KUMARA.
September 29. George Mansfield, a miner,- yesterday slipped into the sledge channel, and was washed out to the mouth, a distance of 3300 feet. He was immediately rescued from the drop, and taken to the hospital. He was much cut and bruised, but no bones were broken. Fortunately the men iv the various claims were changing shifts at the time, or the consequences must have been fata!. A miner by the name of James Bard, when going down the ladder of a shaft at Larrikin's Terrace this morning, missed his hold, and fell a distance of forty-five feet. He was conveyed to the hospital, but died an hour later. He was aged 53 years.
