DUNEDIN.
September 29. The candidates for the Dunedin Mayoralty are Councillors Thompson, A. 11. Rose, and W. T. Street. At a public meeting held at Milton on Wednesday it was resolved to establish a woollen factory if sufficient shares are taken up. Three thousand shares were subscribed in the room. It is proposed to have 30,000 shares. News has been received that a detachment of the Salvation Army for service in New Zealand is on the way out from London per steamer Potosi. Messrs Royse, Stead and Co. have bought from Mr G. M. Bell, of Waimea, his well-known herd of shorthorns, comprising ten bulls and 30 cows and heifers. The herd is bred from the well-known
bulls amongst others—Prince Frederick (sold for over €405) and Riby Knight (imported from England at a cost of 1000 guineas). Messrs Royse, Stead and Co. will divide the herd between their Birchwood and Ocean View estates in Southland.
