September 6. At a meeting of creditors in Alfred Thompson's estate yesterday an assignment was refused, and the estate will now go into bankruptcy. By the Te Anau yesterday five Ayrshire cows, two heifers, and two calves from Mr George King's herd were shipped for Melbourne for Mr Richard Gibson. All the publicans in Rangiora applied for midnight licenses, and were refused. Mr Beetbam, R.M., is still too ill to resume his duties, and will not be able to do so till November. The Christchurch East licensing com' mittee granted the extension to 12 o'clock to nine publicans yesterday, refusing it to one only on tbe grouud of bad conduct. The Lyttelton committee, on the other hand, flatly refused any extension.
