September 1

Wholesale dismissals have been made in tbe Dublin police force of the men who had attended the recent meeting ot malcontents. The ranks of the force have been materially thinned by the discharge, and bodies of troops have consequently been drafted off, and now occupy the various police stations in the city and suburbs. A number of special constables are being sworn in to take the place temporarily of the men dismissed. September 2. The dismissal of the malcontents from the Dublin police force has resulted in an extensive strike of constables in that city, aud owing to the absence of police from the streets serious rioting by a number of roughs took place last night. Houses and shop 6* were attacked, and several were much damaged. The troops were called out and charged the rioters, some of whom were severely punished. Additional special constables are now being enrolled to assist in the maintenance of order. Dr Tait, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is suffering from congestion of tbe luugs, has had a serious relapse, and is now in a prostrate condition. At to-day's wool sale 8400 bales were offered. The market was firm. The homeward mails via Suez aud.

Brindisi, which left Melbourne on the 18th July, were delivered here to-day. Earl Granville has made a protest against the quarantine regulations at Suez. September 3. The majority of the constables in Dublin who went out on strike yesterday have since expressed penitence, and have returned to their duties. Further rioting which took place last night was promptly suppressed by the military.
