H.B. AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY'S ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual general meeting of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society wa. held at the Criterion Hotel this morning. There was a large attendance of members. Captain Russell occupied the chair.

The report of the proceedings of the society during the past year was read from the chair, and passed without comment.

A printed statement of accounts for the year, showing a balance in favor of the society of £1488, was placed in the hands of members. The treasurer explained several of the items, and on the motion ot Mr Shrimpton, seconded by Mr White, the balance-sheet was adopted. The meeting then proceed to discuss a number of resolutions passed by the committee, aud cent up for for confirmation.

The resolution that no prizes or champion cups be awarded in the horse, cattle, or sheep classes be given unless there are two exhibits in the ordinary classes, and three exhibits in the champion classes, was, on the motion of Mr Sutton, seconded by Mr Shrim pton, confirmed.

The resolution that no further entries be taken or cups on the old system Le given at future shows in the merino ram, bull ar.d cow classes, and that all other champion cap prizes shall cease when finally won in the respective classes, and that the resolution in reference to champion cups be also applied to j»rain and ploughing match champion cups, was also confirmed.

Mr Ormond moved " That champion cups of the value of £10 10s shall be substituted in those classes in which the original champion cups have been won, and that the new cups shall be yearly prizes to be won by the best exhibits in each class." Carried.

Moved by Mr Ormond, "That the chairman be requested to communicate with the Government with a view to having the duty on the society's medals remitted." Seconded by Mr Tanner and carried. Mr Bennett moved, " That a cordial vote of thanks be accorded to the hon. treasurer for his indefatigable exertions in the interest of the society." Seconded by Mr Sutton, and carried. OFFICE BEARERS. Captain Russell was re-elected president, Mr J. N. Williams vice-president, Mr C. B. Winter treasurer, and Messrs Burke and S. Williams auditors. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs John Anderson, John Bennett, W. J. Birch, Hugh Campbell, J. H. Coleman, W. Douglas, C. A. Fitsroy, J. S. Giblin, John Heslop, A. R. Lyons, A. M'Hardy, Allan M'Lean, Archibald M'Lean, M. R. Miller, John Mackersey, W. Nelson, J. D. Ormond, Peter Ramsay, F. Sutton, W. Shrimpton, G. T. Scale, T. Tanner, R. Wellwood, J. N. Williams. The meeting then adjourned.
