THE GRAIN AND ROOT SHOW.
The above show, under the auspices of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and | Pastoral Society, was held to-day in the large back store attached to the offices of Messrs Hoadley and Lyon. The number of exhibits was small, but the samples shown were of excellent quality and growth. A charge of one shilling for admittance tended to keep many visitors away, and the show accordingly did not appear to attract the general sight-seer. The following is the prize list:— WHEAT. First prize, J. N. Williams ; second prize, J. D. Ormond ; third prize, W. White. Eleven exhibits. oats (shout). First prize, Captain Russell ; second, R. Wellwood; third, C. A. Fitzßoy. Six exhibits. OATS(TARTARIAN). First and' second prizes, Captain Russell ; third, J. D. Ormond. Four exhibits. BARLEY. First prize, Captain Russell ; second, T. Willan ; third, J. Bennett. Six exhibits. HYE GBAeS SEED. First prize, T. Tanner ; second, Captain Russell. Two exhibits. POTATOES (LATE.) First prize, J. Bennett; second, T. Tanner: commended, J. A. Rearden. Eight exhibits. POTATOES (EAHLY.) First prize, J. Bennett; second, T. Willan. Six exhibits.
MANGOLDS (RED.) First prize, J. Marshall; second, T. Willan ; commended, Captain Russell. Five exhibts.
MANGOLDS (YELLOW.) First and second prizes, Captain Russell ; commended, T. Tanner. Eight exhibits. CABBOTB. First prize, T. Tanner. Three exhibits. EXTEA EXHIBITS. Cabbage, prize Captain Russell. Onions, prise Captain Russell.
