ASHBURTON.
May 13. A fire broke out in Watts' Temperance Hotel this morning at 2 o'clock, and it was burnt to the ground in a short time. The fire also caught Baker and Brown's coach factory, which was also destroyed. One lodger in the boarding-house was extracted with difficulty, and he was much cut and burnt. Mr and Mrs Watts were absent at the time, and their two children were rescued by a lodger. The insurance on i the hotel is (Barker and Brown owners)— South British, £3000. On the furniture—Union, £200. The factory insurance is £250 in the South British, but the stock is uninsured. The origin is unknown, and Baker and Brown are heavy losers.
