NEW PLYMOUTH.

April 23. The following are the agricultural statistics for the provincial district of Taranaki: —Number of holdings, 823; land broken up, 1841 acres; in wheat, 1036 acres; oats, 718 acres; barley, 83 acres; grass, b'0,286 acres ; potatoes, 508 acres; maize, 111 acres; turnips, 476 acres; mangold, 51 acres; orchard, 250 acres; other crops, 6 acres ; total, 63,525 acres under crop; plantation of forest trees, 143 acres.

The District Court is still sitting in the case of Middletou v. the Bank of New Zealand. The jury returned a verdict that a sum of £419 13s 8d was not paid to the Bank of New Zealand on Mrs Middleton's behalf till the 2nd June, 1880, and a verdict was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, £28 10s. A new trial was granted by the Judge. Eleven sections in the Parihaka block have been disposed of for cash, and five or six on terms of deferred payment.
