Christchurch, January 29. There is magnificent weather for the match. Ollivier won the toss, and the Australians took the field. At 12.30 Corfe and Watson went to the wickets, but Watson was run out after making 2. Leach followed him, and Corfe made a splendid score leg-bit off Palmer for 4. Corfe was then bowled by Palmer. The score at 1 p.m. stood 20—2—-9. Ashby joined Leach.
