January 15.

The art exhibition promises to be successful. Nearly ninety pictures by local artists have been already received. Edwards, the champion ped., purposes doing a forty-eight hours walk next week.

The notorious convict Butler, and another long sentence prisoner, named Garrett, arrived from Dunedin yesterday. They are now in Lyttelton gaol. Simonsen's Opera Company opened at the Theatre Koyal last night to a good house. The performance was a decided success.
