BROKE INTO HOTEL
Maoris Committed For Sentence
Two members of Die Maori Battalion stationed at Trent bam, I’iliikctc Takerci Kawara, and Teri Kerci, admitted in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, that they had broken into the bar of the Waterloo Hotel, on August 5, and had stolen a number of bottles of ale, stout, ginger ale and other varieties of drink. They were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, by Mr. Stout, S.M. Mr. E. C. Wood, .manager qf the Waterloo Hotel, said he was the last member of the staff to visit the bars on August 5. Everything was in order and the doors were locked. When be returned at 8.43 the next morning, he found one of the bars had been broken into; a fanlight smashed, and the front doqr unlocked. Thirty bottles of ale and stout, seven of cordial, 18 bottles of ginger ale and ginger beer, and four large bottler; of lemonade were missing. He estimated the total value of the stolen goods to be £5/7/-.
