TRIBUTE TO KARORI TEACHER

Miss F. Hind Farewelled Residents mid former pupils thronged the Karori West. Schoolroom recently to honour Miss F. M. Hind, who has retired from the teaching profession after having been head teacher- of. tbc school for the past 12 years. Visitors included the chairman of the Wellington. Education Board. Mr. W. A 7. Dyer, mid Mrs. Dyer, Mr. Bowden. ALL’. for Wellington West, Airs. C. Stewart, former ALP. for the district. Mr. Stevenson, agricultural instructor for the Education Board, and Airs. Stevenson, and several former members of the teaching staff who had served under Alias Hind. Ex-pupils formed a guard of honour for Miss Hind, who was received with musical honours mid presented , with a floral spray by Airs. S. Smith, a member of the school committee. The" chairman of the school committee, Air. AV. J. Wilson, said that during the 12 years Alias Hind had been bead teacher she had won the affection of all pupils and the esteem of parents. She was the only woman teacher in the whole of New Zealand to be in charge of a school of the si’ze of Karori AVest, which was ml achievement, mid testimony to her ability as a teacher and her ability to control a large school. The chairman of the education board spoke of the high regard in which Miss Hind was held by the board. Others who paid tribute to Aliss Hind were Air. Bowden. Mr. E. Osboldstone, president of the Home and School Association. Aliss Smith, representing the teachers. Aliss Rainbow." representing past students, Air. K. AL Ilayr. who formerly was the teacher of the model school. Messrs. 11. C. Hildreth and C. Louis, members of tlie original school committee, and Air. A. 11. Brooks, who was chairman of the school committee for six years till his retirement. On behalf of residents mid ex-pupils, the chairman made a presentation to Miss Hind. A film strip of photographs of gatherings held nt. the school over the past "12 years was shown with appropriate commentary. and supper was served. Hems were contributed by Airs. Joblin. songs, Aliss Cuuningliaino, violin solo. Mr. K. AlcAulay, songs, ami Aliss Boynton, recitations.
