PROBATION FOR THEFT OT PETROL
For stealing four gallons of petrol, valued at 11/2. Hie property «f Hie Wellington City Corporation engineer’s department, Ronalrl Grant, aged 63, was given 12 months' probation by Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court," Wellington, yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Thompson. who prosecuted, said that for a considerable time petrol hud been disappearing from the city corporation's yard nt Wellington where accused was employed as a nightwatchman. About midnight on June 211, detectives caught him siphoning petrol from a truck in Hie yard. Accused had a car, and investigations liad shown that in the last 14 months lie had travelled 7167 miles over the mileage which coupons would allow. Mr. A. J. West-Walker appeared for Grant, who pleaded guilty.
