N.Z. GIRL IN CHARGE
First Club In Malta For Servicewomen
The first club for women of the services in Malta has been opened by the Y.W.O.A. Miss Meg Saunders, a New Zealand girl, is hostess. At the opening of the club there were present his Excellency the Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Lord Gort, V.C., the Lord Bishop of Gibraltar, Miss Jean Begg, 0.8. E., and many high-ranking officers of the services. Mrs. Campbell, wife of the LieutenantGovernor, in opening the club, said it would provide a much-needed centre for women of the services in Malta, a place which they could regard as their own home. She said the Y.W.O.A. hoped to open a bummer resort at St. Paul’s Bay and she emphasized the good . work achieved by Miss Saunders. Here at Windmill Street, the Wrens, Waafs, nurses arid' voluntary aids will now find somewhere where they can go for a rest, a meal or a bed, when on 'leave in Valetta. The quiet elegance of the place and the fact that there is one of the loveliest views in Europe there should prove a real tonic to all servicewomen looking for a little change and luxury when on leave. In a private lettei- to Miss Law, of the New Zealand Y.W.C.A., Miss Saunders mentioned that she was organizing a monthly N.Z. dinner for about 30 N.Z. Navy and Air Force men who are resident in the Malta, area.
