DUKE & DUCHESS SELECT

STAFF FOR AUSTRALIA

It is understood that the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester have virtually completed the selection of their personal staff for Australia, but they are unlikely to depart till the end of October, states an exchange. The Duke’s staff is entirely of young men with distinguished service in the war. It is believed to consist of n chief of staff, two aides and one equerry. The Duchess will have two ladies-in-waiting, one of whom is an intimate family connexion. (Che Duchess is eagerly looking forward to her first contact with Australia and is absorbing all information she can obtain about the country, and is most anxious that all arrangements will fit in with wartime conditions in Australia. From American Junior Red Cross. A large parcel recently arrived at the Junior Red Cross headquarters in Wellington from the American Junior Red Cross national headquarters. It contained an assortment of toys and articles made by juniors of the Navajo Indian circle in Arizona, and the Alaskan native circle and members of the San Francisco and a Californian circle. There were two hand-made dolls in Indian costume, one garbed in Esquimo furs and complete with sleigh, a loom with a halfwoven scarf, a pair of white kid baby slippers with fur and bead design, joke books and an exhibition portfolio, among the assortment. It is hoped to arrange a window display of these and the materials received from Canada for the Junior Red Cross birthday celebrations.
