Night Clubs And Like Places Of Entertainment POLICE POWER TO CLOSE PREMISES Designed to meet complaints which have arisen regarding the conduct of some places of entertainment such as night clubs, emergency regulations gazetted last night give the Commissioner of Police power to close such premises where persons are allowed to possess alcoholic liquor, or drunkenness, disorderly conduct, oi- any entertainment of a demoralizing character takes place. Premises may also be closed if convicted or reputed thieves or prostitutes or their associates are permitted tO' be on the premises, or if anj’ person taking part in the control or management has been convicted of an offence under Section 190 of the (Licensing Act, or is a reputed thief or prostitute or an associate of the A place of entertainment, aceonling to the regulations, means any premises where persons are permitted to be at any time for the purposes of eating or drinking or dancing or being entertained, and where payment is made for admission to or use of the premises, whether the payment is demanded as a charge or made voluntarily. , , .. „ Provision is made m the regulations for a right of appeal to a magistrate against the closing of premises, and also for police entry to places of entertainment Where a place of entertainment is closed it shall be an. offence for anyone to take part in the management or control of the premises, or for anyone to "o there for the purpose of eating, drnik- & dancing or being entertained. Penalties for an offence against .the regulations are, on summary conviction, in the case of an individual imprisonment for a term not exceedingthree months or a fine not exceeding £2OO, plus £lO for every day during which the offence continues, or both imprisonment and fine, in the case of a body corporate the fine shall not exceed £5OO, plus £5O for every day the offence continues.
