SONGS AND SCENES FROM SHAKESPEARE
The drama circle of the Lyceum Club recently devoted an evening to the presentation of songs and scenes from Shakespeare. Guests, including many members of the Wellington Shakespeare Society, were welcomed by the club president, Mrs. David Herbert. After a pianoforte solo by Miss Dorothy Downing, scenes from the following plays were presented :—“Henry V,” bliss Hardinge Maltby; “Merry Wives of Windsor, Miss Ahern. Miss O’Donoghue and Mr. E. 0. Harvie; “King Henry VIII, Mrs. Herbert, Mrs. Harvie and Mr. Cordery; “King Henrv VIII,” “Queen Katherine’s Defence.” Mrs. W. G. Ross; “Jp’ius Caesar.” Mr. H. F. Von Haast and Mr. E. C. Harvie. A group of songs typically blrnkespearean in flavour were sung by Mesdames Conner and Herbert and Mr. Vai Jones. Mr. Von Haast acted as accompanist and introduced, each item with interesting. and informative comment. An informal supper concluded the entertainment.
