PALORA SPRINTS WELL AT HASTINGS

Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS, Oetober 19. Most interest in tills morning’s work was centred in the Wellington engaged horses who leave here on Thursday morning. In addition to those who competed at Masterton on Saturday, there will be a further dozen to go to Trentham. Haughty Queen, the only local horse engaged at Waveriey on Labour Day, sprinted three furlongs in 381, pointing to her possibilities at her next start. Other three fourlongs gallops were; Taiwhalnui, 40; St. Nat, 39; Campenella (easily). 42; Opaltown and Hula Chief. 40; Pjko Plko, 38 J. Palora was responsible for the best time effort of the morning when sprinting half a mile in 49}. her best gallop of late. She does not look as lit as she did last summer. In recent efforts she has been blowing hard at the end of her trials. Flying Hawk galloped a mile’ and a quarter to return 2.13}. He was assisted the first three in 40. by Joy Night, and the last seven by Note Raid in 1.32}. The last mile was run in 1.48, and the last six in 1.19. From a time point of view it was a fair gallop, but he carried less than 00. Indian Sport took 1.45 for once round on the plough, the last three in 42. lie has no immediate engagements and will not race till Napier Park. Skyhawk, who has benefited by his Auckland Guineas race, worked attractively in two rounds of solid pace work. He will be ridden nn Saturday by P. Atkins. The Wellesley Stakes candidate. Sllvestre, is not making the trip on account of a cold. , Ln Serena, Cheap Lodging, and Barrosn returned from Masterton on Monday. AH have accepted for the first day at Trentharn. but Cheap Lodging may be the, only one to make the trip.
