About eight o’clock on Friday night a young man who had been detained by detectives in coniiexi'on ivith the theft of a considerable sum of money from a city office escaped while being conducted to the charge room at the police station. He suddenly boiled through a door and across the. road to the railway station, where he disappeared in the yards. He was re-arrested at Evansdale at 8 o’clock last night after a period of 21 hours’ liberty.
