BURN OR BURY RUBBISH
Appeal To Householders
Half to three-quarters of domestic rubbish could be burned or buried.by householders and a leaflet would shortly bs issued containing advice on rubbish disposal, said Cr. Will Appleton. chairman of the works committee, at last night s meeting of the AVellington City Council. He appealed to householders to do their best to assist the rubbish collection start, which was very short of personnel, by disposing of as much refuse as possible. The placing of tins at the gates had been considered, but as no fixed day cou.d be given for the collection it would impose hardship on householders who might carry the tins to the gates and then have to take them in again because they were not collected at the expected time, further, the saving to the staff would be small. , , , Though repealed requests bad been made to the manpower authorities, oil additional men were still required to maintain the essential city services. Iu order to relieve the position to some extent as far as refuse collection was concerned, the committee again appealed to householders to burn and bury refuse where possible.
