Auckland Cases, Heard (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 12. The first appeals for retention in New Zealand lodged by. or on behalf of soldiers on furlough were heard by the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board today. In most eases the health of relatives of the soldiers concerned constituted the basis of (lie pleas of undue hardship, and in some cases reference was made to financial matters. In the ease of one soldier release was sought in order that he might assist his father on the farm, otherwise ihe farm would have to be sold. Eight appeals were heard and there was a minimum of cross-examination.
