Vice-Regal. • Government House, Wellington, October 11. His Excellency the Governor-General received Captain Moritz Vaumund, New Zealand Superintendent Norwegian Shipping and Trade Mission, this morning. This afternoon his Excellency received the Honourable H. G. R. Mason, Attor-ney-General. . . . Later his Excellency received Brigadier W. W. Dove.

Sir Albert Ellis, chairman of the British Phosphate Commission, is visiting Wellington. Mr. 11. Temple White has been appointed to judge at the Christchurch Competitions next May.

Mr R V. White will be the new president of the Canterbury Chamber.of Commerce for 1943-4-1. The new vice-presi-dent will be Mr. Stewart Hi. Mair. Mr. H. E. Barber, B.E.(Civ.), who for the last two years has been engaged on defence work under the designing engineer, head office, Public \\ orks Department, has been transferred to the engineering staff at Karapiro. The hydro works under construction at Karapiro are being carried out under the immediate direction of Mr. J. T. Gilkison, B.E. (A.M.1.C.E.).
