Wellington Schoolboy Championships

The Wellington schoolboy cross-country championships were conducted at Miramar on Saturday afternoon by the harrier subcommittee of the Wellington, Athletic Centre. There were good fields and the races wore over before the rain that fell later in the afternoon.' though the muddy condition of the runners when they finished showed that they had ha-d to cover some boggy ground. • _ In the senior race there were 26 starters, representing three colleges. The course wgs about 3i miles long. Tulloch, the winner, led Newton, a team mate, to the tape by a couple of hundred yards, and Technical College runners filled fifth and eighth places also, so that Technical College had the winning team as well as the first and second men home. The junior event was won by Twidle, Mt Cook School, who headed off Gibbs, Scots College, in a eprint to the tape. A Scots College runner. Lee-Jones, was in third place also, but the Rongotal College team beat the Scots College team. Rongotal College filled fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth places, while Scots-College boys were second, third, 14th and ttZth. There were 65 starters and over 50 finished. The results.were as follows: — Senior. —Individual placings: P. L. Tulloch (Technical College), 1: D. J. Newton (Technical College), 2; J. M. Gray (Scots College), S. Times: 19.50, 20.29, 21.11. Team placings: Technical College (Tulloch, Newton, Cooper and Cottingham), IGpts., 1; Scots College (Gray, James, Holden and Lang). 23pts„ 2: Rongotal College (Inglis, Johnston. McCabe and Combs), 47pts., 3. Junior. —Individual placings: R. Twidle (Mt. Cook School), 1; J. Gibbs (Scots College), 2: B. Lee-Jones (Scots College), 3. Times: 18.42, 18.45, 18.47. Team placings: Rongotai (Johnson. Smith, Moir and Tinney), 28pt«., 1; Scots College (Gibbs, LeeJones. Martin and Maule), 36pts., 2; Mt. Cook School (Twidle, Johnson, Hilson and Wheatley), 52pts.. 3. Miramar North School obtained 102pts. and Lyall Bay School 114 p ts.
