TRIBUTE FROM SHETLAND WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
A ehanee encounter in a busy Chicago store between a Shetland Islander linn a bereaved mother had a sequel recently at Lerwick, Shetland Islands, when flowers were laid on the graves of overseas ail- heroes by a representative group of the Shetland Federation of AVoincn’s Institutes. Hie Howers, 11. bunches hi all, were laid reverently on the, graves, each individual name and rank being read aloud at the time. The “Shetland Times” stated that m the short and simple ceremony the thoughts of all present went out to the brave women of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand who had sent their men so far to defend their shores. For obvious reasons the names of those so honoured could not be given. But, the paper said, if overseas papers published tins account it might bring comfort to sorrowing mothers and wives in our farflung Empire.
