AUCKLANDER CHOSEN

First Physical Culture Director In Jamaica Selected by the Colonial Office, as Jamaica’s first woman supervisor ot physical training, Miss Winsome Bach is a young Aucklander who has gained considerable prominence in her career ot physical culture. Miss Bach taught, for three years in New Zealand country schools. In 1930 she went to London ro train at the Chelsea College of Ph.vsical Education, where pupils are trained to be good all-round athletes, and, besides the curriculum of sports., to taite a. remedial course at the hospital, specializing in anatomy and massage. All examinations are taken at the University of London, mid in her final yen: of this strenuous training, Miss Bach "radualed with distinction as head o. ?he course. She also holds diplomas from the London School of Dancing, and has her A pilot’s licence. . Iler first appointment as physical culture mistress was in 1933 at Asehan College, Sydney. Returning to England to take a refresher course at Chelsea, Miss Buch then went as physical culture educator at a blind school at Newton Abbott, near Torquay. After further experience in various large colleges, she spent four years as an organizer for the district of North Stafford. Miss Bach received her present appointment to Jamaica while acting as organizer for West Riding.
