A.T.S. Girls’ Charges.
i’nrt o£ the duties of girls nt an English A.T.S. eamp is the bathing of certain new recruits. The recruits are dogs —Alsatians, collies, Labraddr retrievers and setters —which -have been lent by their owners for military service. Before their Army career begins the dogs have to pass the veterinary surgeon and the dentist, nnd are inoculated just as if they were soldiers. 'Then they arc trained to carry messages, to act as sentries and to go on patrol. They guard airfields. too. and so sensitive is their hearing that their sudden whining or restlessness has often been the .first alarm that raiders were approaching.
Linen in a lovely shade of powder blue is used for a perfectly plain but particularly attractive frock. The skirt: is plain with a pleat at centre front, and the fop and sleeves have several horizontal inch-wide tucks, finished with wide hemstitching. The neck has a narrow collar and small revers.
