Yesterday morning the mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop, received the following cablegram from the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Mr. Nettlefold: —-“Am opening Australian £100,000,000 Austerity Loan noon Friday, Australian time. Would greatly appreciate inspiring cable from you. which I could read to vast audience.” The mayor of Wellington replied at once: —"The spirit of Anzacs lives again, and stirs us to united and supreme elfort. Behind our gallant comrades in the line must stand the home front, stern in sac rilice and resolution. Australia will be Iherc. Greetings and confident wishes for success Austerity Loan from an oid Anzac.”
