FIRE-FIGHTING
British Expert Proposes Important Changes
COMMITTEE TO REPORT A report on the organization, training, personnel and equipment of the Dominion’s fire-fighting services has been completed by Mr. A. D. Wilson, of the National Fire Service of Great Britain, and has received preliminary consideration by the War Cabinet. The Minister of Civil Defence, Mr. Wilson, stated yesterday that the report was comprehensive and, as.it covered proposals involving important changes in respect of administration and control, it was desirable that the interests likely to be affected should have every opportunity of studying the measures before they were finally considered by the Government.
The War Cabinet has decided, therefore, to appoint a special committee to examine the proposals and report as to their general practicability and their bearing on the organization already developed for emergency purposes. The committee will consist of: Mr. H. F. O’Leary, K.C., chairman; Mr. iS. iS. Dean, Fire Boards’ Association ;' Mr. T. ' Jordan, president, Municipal Association; Mr J. A. C. Allum, mayor of Auckland and chairman Auckland Metropolitan E.P.S.; Captain P. J. Watts, United Fire Brigadesmen’s Association; Mr, L. Glover, N.Z. Fire Brigadesmen’s Federation; together with representatives of the Internal Affairs Department and the Treasury. The special committee will begin its sittings early next week.
