LIGHT RESTRICTIONS

Wellington Offenders

Lighting restrictions still hold good in Wellington. Many people may have gathered the impression that, because there has been little active publicity given to the light restriction regulations recently, there has been some easing uu, According to the Lighting Controller this is not the case. The regulations as enacted last year are still in force, as many offenders might find out to their disadvantage. On Friday night last certain observers were out aud about in the city, taking a note of premises that were much too brightly illuminated to be complying with the restricted lighting regulations.| Oblivious to warnings given in the past, some business people have taken advantage of the instructions given them as to the measure of light they may use in their shop windows, and have gradually increased the amount as time has gone on. The reminder is given that enemy action has never been nearer New Zealand than it is today, and there must be no relaxation whatever in the matter of unscreened lighting from places of residence after dark. It was the sum total of such lighting in a closely-built city like Wellington which caused sky-glow , which could be seen far out at sea under favourable weather conditions, and so serve as a guide to any marauding enemy m-s--sel. The need, therefore, of a continuance of the ‘practice of obscuring all lignts likely fo be seen from outside will lie insisted upon.
