U.S. AIR TRANSPORT BOMBED

Raid In Assam Province NEW DELHI, October 27.

A United States ■ Army Air Force communique reports that a strong force of Japanese bombers and fighters attacked American airfields in the Dibrugarh area, in north-western Assam, on Sunday, destroying and damaging several transport aircraft on the ground. Two of the raiders were shot down, and one American lighter was lost.

Chungking reports that Chinese bombers escorted by fighters attacked a Japanese-occupied aerodrome at Yunshung, in South -Shansi Province yesterday and tons of high-explosive bombs were released. A runway and some buildings were damaged. No fighter opposition or anti-aircraft fire was encountered and all the Chinese planes returned safely.
