WIDESPREAD RAIDS Allied Bombers North Of

Bombers under General MacArthur's command have struck two blows iu the past 24 hours in support of the Americans fighting in the Solomons. An enemy warship in Rabaul Harbour was hit and another vessel set on fire in a night raid by Flying Fortresses. Other bombers attacked the aerodrome and 1 dispersal areas at Buna in the northern Solomons. They started extensive fires which were visible 80 miles away. At Rabaul, the Fortresses encountered increased anti-aircraft fire. A heavy explosion occurred in a warship, but complete results of the attack could not be observed. Allied medium bombers strafed the aerodrome at Gas’mata in New Britain with unobserved results.
