Betting At Weekend PROPORTIONATE INCREASE Restricted opportunities for racecourse betting have •been countered by swelling totalizator figures. This wartime phenomenon, which has been specially noticeable in recent months, was demonstrated generally during the meetings held over’ the long Labour Day weekend. There were 14 days of racing and trotting over the 1941 period, and only 10 days this year. The amounts invested aggregated £499.798/10/- this year, compared with £545,551 in 1941, and £4Gi),020/10/in 1040. ■ _ The total last year for the tour days which have been eliminated tills year was £104,149, leaving an aggregate of £444,703 for the remaining 10 days. Ry this measurement, the increase this year is £55,095/10/-, or just under. It per cent. The Auckland Trotting Club’s £21,476 increase represents an advance of nearly 17 per cent. . This year’s figures would have been further increased had the Greymouth trots not been postponed from .Saturday and Monday to .Monday and next Saturday.
